Atwood Ranch
Nestled in the foothills of the Coastal Mountains, the Atwood ranch provides a perfect setting where broodmares and foals enjoy life on 2,500 acres of native grasslands.
Located in the oak-studded, rolling hills of Northern Californias Glenn County. The backdrop for this premier breeding and training facility includes captivating views of snowcapped Mt. Shasta, Mt. Lassen, the Sierras and the Sacramento Valley.
The ranch is fully committed to its principles of breeding, raising and nurturing the finest Quarter Horses, bred for competition in cutting, cattle working events, and reining, as well as recreational performance.
The ranchs spectacular natural environment offers uniquely effective and professionally administered opportunities for all phases of horse development. The ranch specializes in extensive young horse development and education programs including the Parelli Pre-School Training program, but is equally suited for a first class performance horse training operation or large scale breeding establishment.
Central to the success of the ranch programs are its quality impressive facilities: The large freestanding 140 x 250 barn includes many amenities for the trainer and breeder; large office space, breeding shed with stocks and vet lab, tack and wash bays plus foaling and stallion stalls.
In addition a 120 x 100 clear span riding arena, a 200 round training arena, 24 stall training barn, 80 x140 three sided hay barn and three hot walkers accommodate most every facet of horse development necessary to this highly effective and successful breeding and training facility.
Ranch fields are divided into many pastures, some with hundreds of acres, some smaller. Others are set up for special use like weaning, geriatrics or rehabilitation.
Top quality fences are built with woven wire, using steel pipe for brace posts and gates. Water is pumped from a 2,500 gpm well and circulated to the barns and most fields by miles of buried pipeline. It would be possible to irrigate several hundred acres of pasture should it be developed.
Roads on the ranch are plentiful and, seasonally, are good enough to be driven in a passenger car. The larger fields have large reservoirs, seven in total, with many with the capacity for year-round water. About 1,500 acres is leased to cattle operations.
There are two modular homes on the ranch for ranch employees.
Property taxes for the 2009-10 year total $7,820. The ranch is in the Williamson Agricultural Preserve which assures a low property tax structure for years to come. |
